Here's what we found for "Reporting fake (spoof) or spam emails"

If you're suspicious about an email that claims to be from eBay, you can find out whether it's really from eBay by following these steps:

  1. Go to your Messages.
  2. Look for the email in your messages. If you don't see it, the email is fake.
  3. To report a fake email to us, forward it to spoof@ebay.com.

As long as you have not replied, followed a link in that mail or given out personal information - you should then delete the fake email. You do not need to take any further action.

If you replied to a fake email or have given out personal or sensitive information on a fake website, you need to act immediately to protect your account:

Watch for these warning signs that an email might be fake:

  • It asks you to enter sensitive, personal information such as a username, password or bank account number. eBay will never ask you for this information in an email.
  • It claims that eBay is updating its files or accounts
  • It says that your account is in jeopardy and you won't be able to buy or sell on eBay if you don't update it immediately
